Fushimi-Inari Hike

This morning started like any other with our typical hotel breakfast. After eating, we walked to Kyoto Station and took the JR train - Nara line two stops to the Inari stop. Inari is the starting location of our hike, and it is well known for possessing hundreds if not thousands of torii or gates. Many of the shrines we came across included statues of bibbed stone foxes, and Alexis took pictures of them as we did the hike. The hike is considered easy in difficulty, and by the time we reached the peak we increased in elevation 233 meters. What was very surprising is that people of all ages do the hike ranging from young school children all the way to people who are 70+. We reached the peak and got back to the station in about 2.5 hours. We took a wrong turn on our way down and ended up walking around in the city before reaching the train station. As we wondered around the city, we came across restaurants selling food at the street, stores selling sembei and other souvenirs. The town of Inari is also famous for its inari zushi, so we picked up two of those and grilled uzura or Japanese quail. When the lady handed us the uzura, she told us we can eat the entire thing from head to toe including the bones. I obviously ate the head, Alexis had one piece of the body, and then I finished it off. It's not my typical snack I like to enjoy, but it was kind of tasty.
